Health Care Coverage
With the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) there are more options for healthcare coverage for American Indian/Alaska Natives. AI/AN can still access Indian Health Service care whether they have coverage or not, however the ACA expanded Medicaid and created the Health Insurance Marketplace where AI/AN can purchase health insurance plans. The Marketplace offers subsidies for those with lower incomes to help cover the cost of insurance.
