For many years, patients and healthcare providers have experienced the adverse effects of commercial tobacco use. Despite the health consequences of smoking, physicians and other healthcare clinicians often fail to assess and treat commercial tobacco use consistently and effectively.
Tribal community and clinical linkages are connections between tribal patients, families, and caregivers, tribal health care providers, health care systems, public health organizations, and other community resources.
This fieldbook is a tool for the National Indian Health Service Tobacco Initiative Strategic Tobacco Plan. The ultimate goal is to work toward healthy American Indian and Alaska Native communities. We can only accomplish this multidisciplinary vision by working in partnership with Tribal and Urban Indian communities.
