CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health in collaboration with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, released the following article in the journal, JAMA.
This study is the first to analyze data from the 2019 National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS).
The findings show that the 2019, an estimated 4.1 million high school students (27.5%) and 1.2 million middle school students (10.5%) reported current use of e-cigarettes. Moreover, an estimated 1.6 million students reported frequent (20 or more days in the past 30 days) use of e-cigarettes, and an estimated 970,000 students reported using e-cigarettes daily.
These findings reinforce the importance of continued monitoring of e-cigarette and other tobacco product use among youth, as well as implementation of evidence-base strategies at the national, state, and local levels to reduce youth use of all tobacco products.
