Presented by Dr. Christine Hockett, PhD

Dr. Christine Hockett is the director of Community Research at the Avera Research Institute and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine.  Her research examines how modifiable factors on an individual and social level may shift the trajectory of chronic disease risk throughout the life course.  She uses both observational and intervention methods to identify and target health behaviors that can reduce the risk for diabetes and obesity and improve the health of future generations.  During this presentation, the attendees will learn about the life course epidemiology of chronic disease in Indian country and culturally-tailored interventions developed to reduce the risk of chronic disease in American Indians across the life course – from childhood to adulthood.
