Some of NIH’s goals are to reduce and eliminate health disparities, expand research education and training opportunities for underrepresented minority scientists and provide information to racial and ethnic minority groups about treatment, prevention, and self-management of diseases. As a result, it is essential to diversify the biomedical and health care workforce with research scientists who are culturally competent and responsive to multiple cultural and social needs of underserved minority and socio-economically deprived populations.
NIH Travel Award Scholarships will be offered to a limited number of undergraduate American Indian/Alaska Native students who may have interest in biomedical research. As recipients of this award, students will receive paid travel expenses to the AAIP Annual Conference, lodging and per diem. Students will be required to attend a workshop on NIH Research Training Opportunities on September 4, 2024 pre-Annual Conference.
Students who have previously participated in the NIDDK Diversity Summer Research Training Program or have received an NIDDK scholarship in the past are not eligible to apply.
To apply for the NIH undergraduate student travel award, students must submit a Primary Data Sheet, personal statement, must be an undergraduate AI/AN student, must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and must have an interest in biomedical research.
The deadline to submit a Primary Data Sheet and all required documentation is Friday, July 19, 2024 and the Primary Data Sheet and all materials must be received by Winnie Martinez at NIDDK on this date.
