Funding Opportunity: Reclaim Sacred Tobacco
We are proud to announce a new funding opportunity — Smokefree Tribal Policy Initiative — that is designed to support Tribal communities in building capacity and advancing comprehensive smokefree policies within their sovereign jurisdictions.
Through this initiative, selected applicants will participate in a structured, two-day in-person Smokefree Tribal Policy Guide™ training. This experience is designed to help participants develop a tailored policy plan, identify implementation pathways, create a realistic timeline, and strengthen internal leadership and community support for policy efforts.
Following the training, participating Tribal communities will receive direct funding to implement short-term goals outlined in their policy plan. Supported activities may include:
- Coalition building
- Community education and outreach
- Communications and media efforts
- Policy enforcement planning
- Evaluation activities
- Other non-lobbying implementation strategies
This initiative recognizes that Tribal Nations are at different stages of readiness. The focus is on achieving meaningful short-term campaign wins while building long-term momentum for policy change.
Up to five awards, ranging from $10,000 to $30,000, will be provided to eligible Tribal organizations, coalitions, or entities serving Tribal governments.
Key Dates:
- Applications Open: March 26, 2026
- Application Deadline: April 30, 2026
- Training Completion Deadline: June 2026
- Implementation Period Ends: September 2026
