CDC's OSH releases tobacco-related article titled "National and State Trends in Sales of Cigarettes and E-Cigarettes, U.S., 2011-2015"

National and State Trends in Sales of Cigarettes and E-Cigarettes, U.S., 2011-2015

Today CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) is releasing a tobacco-related article in the March 9th edition of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine entitled, “National and State Trends in Sales of Cigarettes and E-Cigarettes, U.S., 2011-2015.”

Authors examined retail scanner data from convenience and grocery stores; mass merchandisers like Walmart; drug, dollar, and club stores; and military commissaries and found that during 2011-2015, cigarette sales decreased slightly and e-cigarette sales increased significantly.  However, in 2015, convenience store sales of conventional cigarettes increased for the first time in a decade and continue to outweigh sales of e-cigarettes in traditional outlets.  The article provides state-level data on changes in unit sales of cigarettes and e-cigarettes, by product type, that occurred during 2014-2015.

The article will be available after noon EST today at http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0749379717300223
