October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

From Melissa Meza, Health Education Specialist, California Rural Indian Health Board

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign that raises awareness for those affected by breast cancer.  Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Native women, and is the second leading cause of death.  In the U.S., 1 in 8 women will be affected by breast cancer.  This month, we ask that you join us in raising awareness for all Native women who may be touched by cancer.
